Traditional “disposable” service ware is made from petroleum-based plastics and virgin forest products. Food-tainted plastics can be neither recycled nor composted. After an average use of one minute, traditional disposables head to the landfill where they sit for many, many lifetimes. If they escape on the way to the landfill, they are likely to end up in the ocean where 60-80% of marine debris overall and up to 90% of floating debris is plastic, according to the California Coastal Commission.

Traditional disposables can also be unhealthy. Styrofoam is produced from styrene, a known human neurotoxin and a known animal carcinogen. Styrene can leach from the Styrofoam when put in the microwave oven or exposed to acids like lemon in tea or Vitamin A.

Green Event Shop products are certified as healthy, organic, biodegradable and compostable. They are also sturdy, attractive and convenient. Some like SpudWare® can be reused and put in the dishwasher.
